LUSAKA, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- Police in Zambia have launched investigations to establish the killing of seven people suspected to be foreigners in the northern district of Nakonde, a spokesperson said on Wednesday.

Rae Hamoonga, the Zambia Police Spokesperson, said more police officers have been deployed in two remote villages of the district where the gruesome killings happened to help with investigations and conduct more searches.

He said in a statement that the nationality of the victims was yet to be established and that Zambia police were working with their counterparts in Tanzania to conduct investigations into the heinous acts.

The police spokesperson further said preliminary investigations have shown that the victims may have been murdered elsewhere and dumped in the two villages which are close to the border with Tanzania.

According to him, inspections were conducted on the bodies and revealed deep cuts and bruises on various parts and that sharp instruments may have been used in the act.

The victims are believed to be between the ages of 28 and 45, he added.

On Tuesday, a local radio station in the area reported the discovery of the gruesome murders of the victims near two villages.

The decomposed bodies were discovered in the nearby bushes of the two villages.
