Colombia's Maria Camila Osorio Serrano rallied from a set down by winning two tiebreakers Thursday to reach the quarterfinals of the MUSC Health Women's Open in Charleston, S.C.
The United States' Christina McHale jumped on top but couldn't hold off Osorio Serrano, who prevailed 2-6, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (1). McHale served for the match twice later in the second set, and each time Osorio Serrano got the service break to extend the contest.
Osorio Serrano moves on to a quarterfinal matchup with Denmark's Clara Tauson.
Top-seeded Ons Jabeur of Tunisia wasted little time in a 6-4, 6-0 rout of Alycia Parks, a 20-year-old U.S. player ranked 313th in the world. Jabeur next will oppose Japan's Nao Hibino.
Australia's Astra Sharma got past eighth-seeded Madison Brengle of the United States 6-4, 4-6, 7-5. Sharma will face off in the quarterfinals with the winner of the Thursday night match between the United States' Emma Navarro and the Czech Republic's Linda Fruhvirtova.
The other quarterfinal will feature third-seeded Shelby Rogers of the United States and Danka Kovinic of Montenegro.
