NEW YORK, New York, Wall Street was upbeat on Mon day, in a good start to the week.

Optimism about U.S. talks with China over trade, which resume in Washington this week, was the main focus.

At the close of trading Monday, the Dow Jones industrials were ahead 443.86 points or 1.74% at 25,883.25.

The Standard and Poor's 500 rose 29.87 points or 1.09% to 2,775.60.

The tech-laden Nasdaq Composite added 45.46 points or 0.61% to 7,472.41.

The U.S. dollar was left licking its wounds after getting a hiding in Asia.

Around the New York close on Monday, the dollar traded at levels seen in Asia, with the euro quoted at 1.1306, the British pound at 1.2910, and the Japanese yen at 110.53.

The Swiss franc was changing hands at 1.0048, the Canadian dollar at 1.3252, the Australian dollar at 0.7124, and the New Zealand dollar at 0.6850.
