Italy close to revealing Alitalia plan
The Africa News.Net Saturday 26th July, 2008
Italy’s Industry Minister Claudio Scajola has told the press that Italy is close to a rescue plan for the near-bankrupt airline Alitalia.
At the same time, he did not rule out the possibility that the state-controlled carrier could be placed into administration.
The minister said: 'I think we’re getting near to a solution to be able to relaunch a company with Italian capital.'
There has been speculation that Alitalia will be put into administration to lose its debts and a new company merged with smaller Italian airline AirOne, cutting 4,000 workers along the way.
