Saturday 26th July, 2008

At least seven people have died in several days of storms and heavy rain sweeping across South Korea.

A further six people are still missing.

The district of Bonghwa in North Kyongsang province, the hardest-hit area, saw four people killed and four missing, including a 77-year-old woman and her 54-year-old daughter crushed by a crumbling rail bridge.

Some 1,200 people were evacuated from flooded areas in various parts of the country, mostly in the North Kyongsang region.

More heavy rain was forecast for eastern areas.
