Zuma - the new name in South African politics

The Africa News.Net
Tuesday 18th December, 2007

Jacob Zuma has been announced as the new leader of South Africa's ruling ANC party.

After a large group of his supporters demonstrated against his opponent outside the congress in the northern city of Polokwane, Mr Zuma won with twenty-three hundred votes.

His opponent, current leader and South African President Thabo Mbeki, received fifteen hundred votes.

The Zuma victory means he will be likely to become president of South Africa in 2009.

Jacob Zuma is a controversial figure in South Africa due to his involvement in fraud and rape cases.

In the political world, uncertainty over his policies and his strong left-wing backing have caused concern among many investors.

Markets fear Mr Zuma could reverse Mr Mbeki's centrist policies, which have fuelled the longest period of growth in South Africa.

Nevertheless, he has a huge support base and is popular amongst the general public.

Change, hopefully positive!

It is indeed with relief that we finally saw the conference ending in peace and order.
Your black AFRICAN brothers can only expect that the new ANC leadership will one day show thankfulness to the humble but certainly heartfelt and commited contribution of Africa as a continent, during the times of struggle against apartheid.
On a daily basis, we always watch the South African Police Services abusing their power on the fragile and helpless community of Black African Refugees in SA, while Mbeki is promoting the idea of Africa as a united continent. It feels like SA is ignoring the fact that its people should remember that there was a time when South Africans were also refugees in other African Countries.
Apartheid was designed with the ultimum vision of making the black man undermine himself first, and then hate his brother, irrespective of the name of his tribe, origine or citizenship.
Unfortunatelly we saw the same happening and growing among the new South African society, towards every dark-skinned person, not in possession of a “green bar-coded SA ID”.
In the mean time, we never saw a white South African complaining about a British citizen coming to invest his time, wealth and skills in SA. The “syndrome” happens to be an exclusivelly black “pathology”.
Mbeki and his government failed to address the matter, it is with a bit of hope that we expect more attention from a comrade of your nature.
Amandla!!!!

Peoples' Will

Hello Zuma:

Rape. Fraud. African politics. How governments suppress their opponents. Just like Mandela, I urge you to be a reconciler. No retributions. Yes, just like MANDELA. Your opponents sought to suppress your voice with fraudulent accusations. Peoples' Will Wins.

Stay true to yourself. Serve the people with integrity. Do not play politics like Mugabe of old. Do not allow emotions to ruin you.

Welcome the New President of South Africa.
The peoples' voice

Good luck.
